Photography-basics ........learn and improve !
Photography-basics.
For over 160 years, photography didn't really change that much. Ok, the cameras got smaller and film advanced to give us the sharp, clear images that early pioneers would have given their shutter-finger for !
And then something appeared on the horizon that photographers saw to be the enemy - digital. Many felt this new technology would make film redundant, dark rooms obsolete and send hard-won craft skills into exile. Were the film-puritans right to be concerned ? Well, in my opinion, no - although I know many photographers even now who cover their ears at the mention of digital.
Film is still alive and kicking, but there's no doubt that digital is the present - and the future.
But I feel that digital cameras and image-editing software has opened up photography to a whole new and much broader range of enthusiasts.
Most people these days own a digital camera of some description, though often only brought out on little Joey's birthday, the annual family holiday, or Christmas. But there are some would-be Ansel Adams or Charlie Waites out there, trying to put their cameras to good use!
Unfortunately, many do fall by the wayside when time after time their images just don't come up to scratch.
Poor exposure, composition and sharpness are the main culprits - but all are easily rectified with a little knowledge, patience and lots of practice !
Remember, one of the main advantages with digital is, once you have the equipment, practice doesn't cost a penny - no matter how many shots you take. Some of the following information took me a long time to discover for myself. Hopefully, not having to sift through hundreds of books and articles, and spending a fortune on courses that never deliver - you will progress much quicker than I did! I only tell you what you need to know - nothing more, nothing less.
Although aimed at the beginner who wants to be a landscape photographer, experienced photographers may also find the information useful as a re-cap.
While researching for this website, I've re-discovered many things from years ago that had slipped to the back of my mind !To kick off with, my first piece of advice is arguably the most important of all.
To fully understand the fundamentals of photography-basics, I strongly advise buying a camera that you can use manually.
This means being able to set the aperture, shutter speed, ISO and all the other minor settings most digital cameras now have. Please don't be put off and head straight for the auto setting!
I'm going to walk you through everything and show you, with a little work, how NOT relying on the auto-features will improve your images to a professional level.
